This year’s three-hour Olympics Opening Ceremony “will kick off with the sound of the largest harmonically tuned bell in Europe, produced by the Whitechapel Foundry, and the stadium will be transformed into the British countryside for opening scene ‘Green and Pleasant’, which includes real farmyard animals. The ceremony will also include a special sequence celebrating the best of Britain, featuring volunteer performers.

The opening ceremony was devised by film director Danny Boyle
Danny Boyle, the Opening Ceremony Artistic Director, said: ‘The Ceremony is an attempt to capture a picture of ourselves as a nation, where we have come from and where we want to be.’
